We received our state income tax refund this week via direct deposit, and we should see our federal tax refund next week as well. This is a pretty exciting time, as we can pay down some medical bills that have been lingering, and use some of the refunds to pay down smaller debts. Like I have said before, we have used TurboTax for years, and I highly recommend it. I was able to file our state and federal taxes (with itemized deductions) for $50, with a discount through my account with T. Rowe Price. If you do not itemize your deductions, you can file for free (federal) at TurboTax. If you haven’t already filed your 2010 taxes and are expecting a refund–don’t wait!! If you think you will owe more taxes than you have paid, then you can file for an extension at TurboTax as well.
Some of my coworkers use the “box” tax service stores to do their taxes, but I don’t understand why. The people that I know who use them don’t even itemize, and they pay $100-$200 to get their taxes done. I don’t understand why you would do that if you could use a service like TurboTax and get your tax return filed for a fraction of that price. I got my state return direct deposited into my checking account within 5 days of filing, and my federal will be within a week and a half. I have asked my coworkers why they would basically give away a couple hundred bucks, and they say that they can get their tax return just as fast without having a checking account. Even if I had to get a check mailed to me because I couldn’t direct deposit into a checking account, I would wait for the check and not pay a ridiculous amount of money to have my taxes prepared–just my personal choice, I guess.
Anyone have tax preparation comments–please discuss here!

We use turbo tax also. I can’t believe people would pay to have there taxes done as turbo tax is self explanatory & very easy to use. I also do the taxes for my sister on this program
@Donna, TurboTax is easy and straightforward–you would think that people would want to save money, not waste it!
