It has been quite a while since I have written a post for this blog. I have been busy this year and my employment has been questionable at times.
In April I quit my job in construction and took a position driving a water truck in the North Dakota oilfields. The position was pretty lucrative, but the time away from home was not too desirable. My dream job opened up in July and I took the job (as a garbage man). Who knew that it was the “superhero” job for kindergartners (kids in my daughters’ class didn’t believe her when she told them her dad was a garbage man!). This month (December 2011) the dream seems to be fading. A garbage route was closed and I most likely will be getting laid off in the next month or so–pretty sucky!! I have been working off and on and have been collecting partial unemployment and food stamps to help make ends meet.
My wife has been doing a great job at keeping a positive attitude and has picked up extra shifts at her night job to help out. The biggest hurdle I have right now (besides earning enough money to live) is to stay positive. I will most likely be posting regularly to help keep my mind busy, so look for some upcoming topics that will revolve around family personal finance, living on the cheap, couponing, and personal stories from our lives to let everyone (including myself) know that we are not alone.
I am looking for writers who would like to submit posts to be published on this blog related to Family Personal Finance–so if you are interested please explore the Submit a Post link on the top of this page.
Thank you for your support and I look forward to hearing from you in the future!
