Earn cash shopping online through Ebates!

I have been a member of Ebates for a little over a year now and I have been very pleased. I found Ebates through a link on a blog I normally read and had to check it out. I’m glad that I did, because we have been earning cash back for things that we normally buy. For instance, we got 4.5% back on hotel bookings, 16% back on printer ink cartridges, and $25 back for renewing our Verizon contract (and got two free phones in the process!).
If you aren’t already a member of Ebates, then do yourself a favor and join now!! You won’t regret it. They also give you $5 for signing up and you get $5 for every referral (plus bonuses for reaching certain levels).
You shop online anyways, so why not make a few of those hard earned dollars back. To join click HERE.

Happy shopping!!

Book Review “Pay it Down!” by Jean Chatzky

I recently read the book Pay It Down: From Debt to Wealth on $10 a Day by Jean Chatzky (a financial editor for NBC’s Today Show, among other things). This is a good financial book, and a quick read, for the working family. She has many great tips on budgeting, paying down debt, and saving for the future; all on $10 a day!
She starts out the book with a section on “Assessing the problem”. What Ms. Chatzky talks about here is realizing how you are digging a bigger hole everyday by getting into more debt. Once you realize what the reasons and trigger points are, you can start to work on a plan to move ahead.
She next talks about manageable steps to take; you wouldn’t want to train for a marathon by running 26.2 miles on your first training day; you would break it down and start slow, as to not deter yourself from continuing.
Next you need to know what your credit score is and monitor it to make sure you don’t have any negative marks that shouldn’t be there. You also can watch it go up as you go through this process!
In the next sections Ms. Chatzky shows you how to track your spending and cut corners where you can, which will help you on your path to “find” the $10 a day you will need to continue on her plan.
Once you have tightened your budget and found your $10 a day (or more!), you can start paying off your debt. After you have paid off all debts the wealth building will start (and move very fast since you have now reduced your monthly outgoings).
If you would like to pick up a copy of Pay It Down: From Debt to Wealth on $10 a Day by Jean Chatzky, you can pick it up at Amazon.com starting at $5.60! I recommend adding it to your financial book collection!
